Sniffles

Everywhere! People hacking and coughing it seems all over me. The polite thing is to turn your head use a kleenex...try in some, even if futile way, to protect those around you. Or better yet, stay at home. But alas, common sense isn't common. Not exaggerating....A woman next to me (who looked like she should be in a hospital) at the design and horticulture show was wheezing, snoting and hacking the whole time she put up her design. Really, I feel for her. I've drug my half dead carcass into the doctor's office more than once, but somethings just aren't that important....like a design competition. I'm sure she didn't want to let her team down. Which is admirable but.....where do you draw the line? Stay home or go?

Anyway now.....
I'm sniffling and generally feeling miserable. That's why I'm having coffee and patti cake for breakfast instead of steel cut oats and grapefruit. I know the other is better for my body, but the patti cake is better for my psyche. I'll eat a broth veggie soup or salad for lunch and make up for it. Right now I can hear my neighbor's field hands whistling and my new baby rooster's pathetic attempt to crow even through my stopped up ears......ughhh.
I did go outside and pick the rest of the developed Lima beans and pull up the plants to make room for more greens. I'll probably plant turnips and collards and some more lettuce.
My broccoli is forming heads. They are so tall and majestic this year. My favorite garden is the winter garden. The plants seem to thrive so much better than in the heat.
One of my favorite winter crops is cabbage. I think they are lyrical and beautiful. The huge leaves are so mesmerizing with their veins radiating out. It's almost as if you can see white blood coursing through them nourishing the growing central heart.

Patty Cake, Patty Cake ... I never knew there was such a thing. How funny! I have to tell you that I'm envious of your turkey figs! We are just over the boarder here and cannot grow them. A lot of die-hard Portuguese in the area have their trees in pots and bring them inside during the winter. I'm going to try an other type that can handle my zone -- planting in the spring. :) -Sandy

Wow you are way more productive than I am when I'm sick. I drink tea and whimper and that's about it. Haha!

So what is this patti cake stuff? Looks yummy. Is that a graham cracker crust I see??

Patty cake always make me feel better. They are so delicious! Did we put the recipe in the cook book? I can't remember. Anyway it is so easy every cook needs to know it. Definitely, a comfort food in a hurry! Sweet, with vanilla, butter and cream cheese in the batter. YUM!
Did Tera cook those?

Coughing all over the table is truly gross, but the die hard team player is probably the culprit. The hacking table mate always has a dry cough which her doctors attribute to allergies and asthma.

Sorry you are sick. It seems everywhere I see people sneezing, hacking and coughing without attempting to cover their mouths. So far I have not caught anything. I hope I don't. Love your cabbage.

I was one of those sick hacking people, but thankfully I am getting over it....however you know who has now contracted it, and It appears to be almost fatal to him...hehe

Hope you are feeling better....

Oh, that was me at your table ! It was so entertaining watching Byron trying to avoid me! I had been in bed for a week, but I just couldn't miss that banquet for anything! But, it's OK because I went straight to bed when I got home because all the strong medicine I had taken had worn off.
The Doctor said maybe by next week I'll be better. Whoooooo! Sorry, Kristi I just couldn't resist!
